Recent Article from Fall 2008: Stevenson Program Affordable for Tight School Budgets Unfortunately, for most of us, money matters are a challenge. We have to watch our spending and save when we can. The same is true for most public schools, and in today’s weak economy, money is tighter than usual. Real estate revenues are shrinking and budgets are being cut. Fortunately, the quality of reading instruction does not have to suffer. In comparison to any commonly used reading method, the Stevenson Program is distinctly inexpensive. We have always wanted to ensure that any public school student who needed our help could afford it. If a school can afford to buy books at all, they can implement the Stevenson Program. This affordability is a point that teachers using Stevenson should share with their administrators, and a point that teachers who need to try Stevenson should consider. Schools are required to make sure all students can read. They are not required to spend a lot of money doing so. The two most important qualities of a reading program are that it is effective and that students enjoy using it. Stevenson has these points covered. The fact that the Stevenson Program is affordable, however, is another fact that few school systems can afford to ignore.
